COMPACT'O sewage treatment filtration systems are manufactured by a french company in the waste water treatment industry with years of experience. There are a range of sizes COMPACT'O 4, 5, 6EH ST(settlement tank) and multiples there of.

This system is ideal for upgrading an existing fosse system to improve the reduction of effluent discharged.

Utilising biological techniques, the products operation requires no electrical powered moving parts to perform its purification process.  

            The COMPACT'O is a compact filter system for assainissement non collective(ANC) for properties not on mains sewage drainage.  They are suited for properties that do not have enough land for a conventional sand bed filter/drainage sewage treatment system.  The systems can be used for small and medium properties, for week-ends, holidays and gite occupation.  The units can also be made up into mulitples to accommodate larger properties, offices, shops, schools, camping sites and gites.

                                                How the  sewage treatment units work

The treatment system comprises of two stages.  The waste water from sinks, washing machines,  toilets etc, firstly goes to a:-

Pre settlement tank (fosse toutes eaux)

Here the separation of the effluent takes place into solids and fluids.  Solids are biologically digested, the resulting sludge having to be reduced or removed as a legal requirement, by a registered vidange company every 3-4yrs.

The effluent fluid then passes through a prefilter which prevents foriegn bodies eg:-baby wipes, sanitary products going into the treatment unit.

COMPACT'O filtration treatment units

In this the second stage, the effluent fluid enters and is dispersed as small droplets.  Using gravity and capillary action the fluid slowly permiates the treatment media. 

The treatment units consists of :-

A filter media. Consisting of fibres derived from natural rock, which are then uniquely      treated and manufactured in to varying sized cubes. This massively increases the surface area, on which the bacteria lives, multipies and digests aerobically, micro organisms in the fluid as it passes through.  This process purifies the fluid.

A ventilation system.  For the bacteria to thrive and perform their natural process they need to have a  supply of fresh air.  As the unit is designed for anaerobic digestion, ventilation is important.   Utilising naturally occuring convection currents, air enters, passes through and exits the unit by a wind powered extraction system. These processes occur naturally.

The treated effluent discharge is purified to the standard and normes EN 12566-3.   The products are manufactured in complience with the CE regulations.

 Important precautions need to be taken to maintain a well functioning COMPACT’O® filter unit.  Care must be taken to make sure that oils and grease from the kitchen or vehicles, wax, resines, paints, solvents, petrol, diesel, all pesticides, all bacteriacides, toxic products, condensed water from air conditioning units, water from a swimming pool, rain water from gutters and land drains do not enter the filter unit.

Products in the market for activating sewage tanks/pre settlement tanks must not be used, and are not necessary .



Care and maintenance of the COMPACT’O® system


 The filter in the sewage/pre settlement tank requires regular cleaning (at 6 -12 monthly intervals) and before the emptying of the sewage/pre settlement tank.


 When the pre settlement tank is emptied the sides of the tank are jet washed. The intervals between empting and cleaning can be adapted depending on use, it is obligatory that attention is necessary no longer than 4 yearly. It is important that the pre settlement tank is not left to get too full, empty when the tank contains approx. 40% sludge. The empting (vidange) must take place by a registered company and documentation given to that effect.


 The tubes in the filtration unit from which the effluent disperses on to the filter media are cleaned (6 -12 monthly) this period can be adapted depending on the use, the function and performance of the filter unit.


 In the case that the filtration media becomes saturated with broken down effluent deposits after some years, the unit will require cleaning and the media will have to be renewed to return the filtration to its optimal function.
