To obtain SPANC (Service Public d'Assainissement Non Collective)approval for your sewage treatment system and for them to issue a certificate of conformity.  It would be in your interest to observe and comply with their procedures.

If you have not done so already, we suggest that you should:-

1/  Contact a local Bureau D' Etude de Sol.( Independent technicians ) who will carry out various services on your behalf.Your local Mairie should provide you with a list of local recommended enterprises offering these services, you can also find lists in the telephone book and on the internet.

2The Bureau will arrange for a technician to visit your location. He/she will establish what your present/ future sanitation needs are, take notice of your preferred system, advise if it will be accepted by the authorities, survey the site, perform soil percolation tests, design a system layout, and assist you to complete the necessary paperwork for you to submit to the authorities.  Should the authorities require alterations to the original design the Bureau can advise you of its implications and create the required ammendments for you to submit.

3/  Once the layout has recieved official approval you may then begin to excavate and install the system as per the approved layout.

4/  Before the system is backfilled or buried, it must be examined by the authorities to confirm that what has been  installed is the same as the approved layout.  If all is correct they will then inform you that they approve of your installation and you may then back fill. Should your system differ from the submitted layout,( for what ever reason) they will also advise you if it is acceptable or what changes need to be made to make the amended layout acceptable and “conform” to their approval.

The important thing to bear in mind, that is often confused.

1/   The sewage treatment units we supply  have been subject to extensive testing and conform to the present French/European Normes and regulations.

2/   What will be the subject of conformity is the system installed at your address. The new/amended system has to be suggested and designed by a Bureau de Etude de Sol.  The designed system then has to be submitted and approved by the authorities. After approval is received installation can then begin, it will have to be inspected by the authorities before backfilling, if the system is installed as per the approved design then a certificate of conformity will be issued.
